Chicken Scribbles and The Dove That Looks Like A Frog (2012-2013)
Mono prints on paper 40x60cm and bronze sculpture 20x10x5cm
Part of an on-going research entitled Chicken Scribbles and the Dove that Looks like a Frog, that looks at the history of Modern Arab art in tangent with political events in the Arab world, to understand the shifts and ruptures in this art-historical trajectory on the one hand, and how they influence memory, narratives and the imagination on the other. The Dove that Looks like a Frog was inspired by a conversation with Jordanian artist Mhanna Al Durra on the affect of the centrality of the theme of Palestine in art practices in 1980's. This work is a meditation on the temporality of repetitive symbols and aesthetics of artworks produced as tools for resistance during the 1960's and 70's in Arab art.
Exhibitions: Darat Al Funun, the Khalid Shoman foundation 2013
