Chicken Scribbles and the Dove that Looks like a Frog: Paradise Series (2013)
collage with photograph archive, magazines, and digital reproduction of paintings
120x40cm and 60x80cm on board
A reflection on the aesthetics of resistance and representational paintings in modern Arab art; Paradise Series is part of an on-going research Chicken Scribbles and the Dove that looks like a Frog, that looks at the history of Modern Arab art in tangent with political events in the Arab world, to understand the shifts and ruptures in this art-historical trajectory on the one hand, and how they influence memory, narratives and the imagination on the other. Borrowing from popular narratives as well as visual cultures, the works appropriate paintings by Palestinian artists, as well as a family album of photographs as a meditation on the uncanny visualizations and imagings of homeland.
